Prof. Sarrafzadegan started and continued activities with the World Health Organization (WHO) until ICRC has been designated as a WHO collaborating Center for Research and Training in Cardiovascular Diseases Prevention and Control in the Eastern Mediterranean Region since 2002.

She is the Chief Founder of the Iranian Heart Foundation (IHF), a non governmental organization for CVD prevention and control and is still the Secretary General of IHF. Dr. Sarrafzadegan established the Iranian Chapter of “Heart Friends Around the World”, the “Food, Industry and Healthy community” society, coordinates the Eastern Mediterranean Network on Heart Health and was one of the chairpersons of the 1st and 2nd and 3rd Eastern Mediterranean Congresses on Heart Health that were organized in Iran, Lebanon and Egypt. She has organized several national and international congresses and seminars about CVD prevention and control. She had participated in several WHO meetings as a temporary advisor or consultant for CVD or chronic diseases prevention and control. She is an active member of the scientific committees of several international societies or associations including the World Heart Federation, international fellow of the council of CVD epidemiology of the American Heart Association and the International Academy of CVD Sciences in Canada and had several scientific publications and presentations in these fields.

Dr. Sarrafzadegan has been awarded several national and international and presidential awards as a distinguished researcher, Professor or women on different occasions. She is the principle investigator of the National Plan of Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention and Control in Iran started in 2000, which was nominated as a WHO model for developing countries.
