Prof. Andres Pichon-Riviere
Prof. Andres Pichon-Riviere

Physician graduated with honors from the University of Buenos Aires (1989); Residency of Family Medicine at the Hospital Italiano, Buenos Aires (1994) and Master of Sciences in Clinical Epidemiology, Harvard University (2000).
 
Andrés Pichon-Riviere is the Executive Director of the Institute for Clinical Effectiveness and Health Policy (IECS - www.iecs.org.ar), an independent, non-profit organization devoted to research, education and technical support with the main goal of improving efficiency, equity, and quality of health care systems and policies. At IECS, he works mainly in the area of Health Technology Assessment and Economic Evaluations.

Dr. Pichon-Riviere is Professor of Public Health at the University of Buenos Aires and member of the Board of the Clinical Effectiveness Program, a Master’s program of the University of Buenos Aires, where he coordinates the courses of  Biostatistics, Statistical computing and survival analysis.

From the year 2001 on, Dr. Pichon-Riviere coordinates the Agency of Technology Assessment of the Superintendencia de Servicios de Salud of the National Ministry of Health. This group, composed by professors and graduates of the Clinical Effectiveness Program, provides the technical support for the development of the PMO (mandatory benefit package that regulates the national health system). Dr. Pichon-Riviere also serves as a Consultant for the Government of the City of Buenos Aires in the area of clinical effectiveness and evaluation of health technologies. He works in the development of clinical practice guidelines and in quality improvement programs in issues such as preoperative evaluation and antibiotic prophylaxis. In addition, he is part of the Central Bioethics Committee of Health Research of the City of Buenos Aires.

He has worked as Consultant at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP); at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and public and private institutions in issues such as: health services research, systems based in primary care and family medicine, physician profiling, quality indicators and preventive and disease management programs. Both during 2003 and 2004, he was one of the winners of the Carrillo-Oñativia a research Scholarship from the Ministry of Health.
