Efforts
directed to capacity development and institutional strengthening are
integrated in all IC Health projects, with the aim of enhancing
capacity for conducting health research in areas relevant to
cardiovascular disease prevention and control. For example, as part of
the Thai Cardiovascular Health Care Project, scholarships will be
offered to several candidates for PhD or Masters programs at either
Mahidol or Sydney University. Short courses in epidemiology,
biostatistics and data management will also be offered to a range of
staff employed on or associated with the project. In addition to such
integrated training programs, other capacity development activities
will be supported by partners of IC Health, such as the International
Society of Hypertension, which plans to establish a number of training
fellowships and partnership grants for individuals and institutions
from low- and middle-income countries. IC Health also provides support
to the Ten Day International Teaching Symposium on Cardiovascular
Epidemiology and Prevention, conducted annually by the World Heart
Federation, with the objective of enhancing the participation of
fellows from low and middle-income countries. |
