Cardiovascular Disease & Diabetes Control in Thailand

This project has been developed by IC Health in association with researchers from Mahidol University in Bangkok, with the support of the Thai Ministry of Health and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation. The main objective is to evaluate a low-cost evidence-based prevention program targeting individuals with diabetes and others at very high risk of cardiovascular diseases. The project will be conducted in 50 government-funded Primary Care Units across Thailand. Initial work in Thailand began with a national survey of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other risk factors. The survey of 5,000 individuals demonstrated that 1 in 10 Thais over the age of 40 years had diabetes, coronary heart disease or cerebrovascular disease. This initial phase of collaboration in Thailand was funded by an unrestricted grant from Pfizer Inc. IC Health is now seeking to identify donors interested in supporting the main components of the second phase.
