This project has been developed by IC Health in association with the
Byrraju Foundation and the CARE Hospital Group in Andhra Pradesh,
India. The Byrraju Foundation is a private philanthropic foundation
that has launched a social development program in 115 villages from
rural and semi-urban areas of Andhra Pradesh. The program includes
components targeting economic development, education, water supply,
sanitation and health care. The IC Health project comprises part of
the health care program. The first phase of the project involves the
establishment of a mortality surveillance system and the conduct of a
survey of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other risk factors. The
second phase involves the evaluation of an intervention program
targeting those with diabetes and others at very high risk of
cardiovascular disease. The project will be conducted through
Foundation-supported health centres with the involvement of research
staff from the CARE Hospitals and associated medical schools in
Hyderabad. Partial support for the project will be provided by the
Byrraju Foundation. IC Health is seeking additional sponsorship for
this project. |
