Three case
studies have been performed to assess the capacity of selected low and
middle-income countries (India, Thailand and Cameroon) to manage the
epidemics of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Using standardized
qualitative and quantitative research methods, these studies assessed
existing and projected national capacity in several areas critical to
cardiovascular disease and diabetes control, including policy
development, program implementation and infrastructure support for
cardiovascular disease prevention and management. The surveys included
various categories of policy makers, health professionals, patients
and community members as respondents. These studies were funded by the
Global Forum for Health Research. Reports from the first three case
studies are available from the Secretariat. The World Health
Organization is supporting a further case study in Nigeria. IC Health
is seeking expressions of interest from other sponsors interested in
supporting similar case studies in China, Mexico, and Guatemala. |
